Raytheon JPS Communications Selects Unicoi Systems’ Fusion™ SIP Software to Power New Analog Radio Adapter

Solid, Proven Software and Ease of Portability Key Decision Criteria

Generic Unicoi IconATLANTA, GEORGIA – August 22, 2006 – Unicoi Systems, a leading provider of real-time multimedia software and reference designs to embedded device developers and OEMs worldwide, today announced that Raytheon JPS Communications selected Unicoi’s Fusion Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) software to enable its new Analog Radio Adapter, the ARA-1. Comparable to an analog telephone adapter (ATA), which allows a standard telephone to operate on an IP network, Raytheon JPS’ ARA-1 provides the same functionality for an analog radio.

When Raytheon JPS Communications decided to develop its SIP-to-Radio adapter, the company considered a number of SIP stack vendors against key selection criteria. Raytheon JPS sought vendors that offered solid, proven solutions, and software code that could be ported quickly and easily to Raytheon JPS’ hardware platform, while readily integrating with its existing software. Other decisive factors included the vendor’s ability to provide timely and helpful technical support, as well as a flexible licensing model that met Raytheon JPS’ budget.

"Unicoi Systems is pleased that Raytheon JPS selected our Fusion SIP software for their innovative Analog Radio Adapter”, said Greg Coonley, CEO of Unicoi Systems. “In meeting Raytheon JPS’ stringent selection criteria, Unicoi Systems has proven once again that we are a company that is easy to work with and responsive to customers’ needs. By using Unicoi Systems’ Fusion SIP software, Raytheon JPS can spend less time building and integrating foundational software and more time developing interoperable solutions for the public safety and homeland defense industries.”

Raytheon JPS products enable interoperability in situations where federal and local agencies or military organizations cannot communicate due to the incompatibility or inoperability of existing communications systems. For example, an ARA-1 can be used with a Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system to extend SIP network communications into military combat situations, where rugged terrain, bodies of water, and tunnels would otherwise limit the reach of a SIP network.

Unicoi’s Fusion SIP software is at the core of Unicoi’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) offerings, which include a suite of fully integrated embedded software and a selection of IP reference designs. Fusion SIP is a lightweight, transport-independent protocol designed specifically for use in IP phones, VoIP gateways and other IP telephony-enabled products.

“For over two decades, Unicoi’s Fusion networking software has set the standard for performance, reliability and stability,” said Greg Coonley. “I am delighted to see that Unicoi’s VoIP offerings are being embraced by industrial and consumer product developers, who need to reduce project risk, enhance productivity and speed time to market.”
